Abstract: The Mount Wilson Observatory (MWO) was the site of virtually all major astronomical discoveries in the early 20th century and site of the largest telescopes in the world from 1908 until 1949. This talk will cover the 2024 re-aluminization project for MWO’s 100” optics, and how individuals and groups can observe on the MWO’s historic instruments (60” & 100”) today.
About our Speaker: Mr. Hasenauer is the former Optical Research Associates & Synopsys, Inc. CODE V Product Manager, a position he held for nearly 20-years. Prior to this, Mr. Hasenauer was an optical design engineer at both Texas Instruments, Inc. in Dallas, TX and Optical Research Associates in Pasadena, CA. He holds a BS degree from the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics.
He is a co-inventor on 6 U.S. Patents, and has several published articles related to optical design. Mr. Hasenauer is a Senior member of both the SPIE and Optica, as well as a Past-President of the Optical Society of Southern California. Since his retirement in 2021, he has been pursuing his passion for amateur astronomy, as well as volunteering at the MWO as a tour docent, Session Director on the 60-inch telescope, and is in training to be a Telescope Operator for the 60” telescope.
