Workforce Development in the Southern California
Optics & Photonics Industries

A Panel Discussion

Over the many years the OSSC has been serving the Southern California Optics & Photonics industries, we have sought to (as stated in Article II of our Articles of Incorporation)  "increase and disseminate the knowledge of Optics and closely allied sciences, to promote the mutual interest of investigators, teachers and students in these fields, and of designers, manufacturers and users of optical instruments and allied scientific apparatus as well as those who have optics as a hobby, and to encourage cooperation and establish acquaintanceship among these persons."  To this endeavor, the OSSC has supported a number of educational programs at local colleges and universities to help educate students to become active participants in the local Southern California optics & photonics industries.

While this has been a fairly successful endeavor, as can be seen by the numbers of former students hired and employed by local optics & photonics companies; the ever-changing landscape of our industries and those we serve requires us to keep abreast of these changes and let our OSSC members and local educators learn from our industry representatives about their requirements for employees.

During this meeting, we will have four (4) voices from local optics & photonics industries leaders to provide us with some updates on their workforce development requirements then focus on ways we in Southern California can band together to leverage our efforts in several areas for the benefit of our OSSC Corporate and Individual members and many others in our Southern California Optics and Photonics Communities.
