- Desiré Whitmore -

Desire Whitmore  Dr. Desiré Whitmore is Assistant Professor of Laser and Photonics Technology at Irvine Valley College.  She has been involved with the Optical Society since her PhD studies in Chemical and Material Physics began in 2005 at UC Irvine.  After graduating in 2011, Desiré went to UC Berkeley for Postdoctoral studies in the Chemistry and Physics departments.  Desiré has spent the last 11 years using ultrafast laser systems to study ultrafast dynamics of solid state materials.  She has been a part of the design and construction of several apparatus, performed experiments with resolution ranging from microseconds all the way down to attoseconds.  Desiré was a part of the Photonics Initiative at the Advanced Technology Education Park (ATEP) during the program's infancy, building up the laser and interferometry laboratories there as well as designing and teaching the Introduction to Geometric Optics Laboratory course and assisting with teaching lectures.  She has also served on the Advisory Committee for the UCI Optics Extension Program since 2009.
